Trading screens are not new. What is new, and overdue, is a trading experience built for jewellers rather than for financial traders — one that understands that the person placing the order also has to account for the metal afterwards.
Live Rates Are the Easy Part
Every platform shows a rate. The difference is what happens in the ninety seconds after you act. If placing a trade produces a confirmation you then retype into your books, the platform has moved the work rather than removed it. A trade should post to your own ledger as a contract, with quantity, purity basis and terms already attached.
Fixing in Tranches Is the Normal Case
Jewellers rarely fix an entire position at once. Metal is sold unfixed and then fixed in pieces as rates move, sometimes over weeks. A platform that treats fixing as a single all-or-nothing action does not match how the trade works. Partial fixing, with the remaining unfixed quantity always visible, is the baseline requirement.
Exposure You Can Read Without a Spreadsheet
The number a jeweller actually needs is how much unfixed metal is outstanding and what a rate move does to it. That should be one figure on one screen, updating live. Most desks compute it manually, late, and only when someone gets nervous.
Settlement Is Where It Gets Real
A trade is not finished when it is agreed. Metal has to be delivered or credited, money has to move, and the counterparty's two ledgers have to end up consistent. A trading platform that hands off at agreement leaves the hardest ninety percent to whoever keeps the books.
What We Are Building
Valenza's trading platform is being built on top of Bullion ERP for exactly this reason: the ledger, the counterparty and the position model already exist, so a trade is not an import — it is an entry in a book you already keep. Live rates, order placement, tranche fixing and live exposure, with settlement handled in the same system. It is on the roadmap rather than shipped, and we would rather say that plainly than imply otherwise.
